AREVA’s presence on the off-shore wind market is growing thanks to the acquisition of a 51% stake in Multibrid, a designer and manufacturer of multi-megawatt off-shore wind turbines based in Bremenhaven in Germany. With this acquisition, AREVA has entered into a joint-venture with PROKON NORD. Multirbrid will provide:
 
- Development of wind technology
- Design and manufacture of
technology for 5 MW offshore M5000 wind turbine
- Leading-edge technology with hybrid drive-train solution, light weight and tripod anchorage 
- Design, test, assembly and maintenance services
 
As an exclusive supplier of PROKON NORD, the company will participate in the first off-shore wind farms in Borkum West I (30 MW) and Borkum West II (400 MW) in Germany, and Côte d’Albâtre (105 MW), the first off-shore wind farm project in France.
 
Multibrid offers commercial and industrial synergies with AREVA’s transmission and distribution division.

Since 2001, AREVA and its subsidiary French HELION have been developing solutions for producing hydrogen by water electrolysis and for generating electricity with fuel cells. The fuel cell combines hydrogen and oxygen via a membrane, simultaneously creating water, heat and electricity. Reverse process is used in electrolysis.
